Looking Back: International Women’s Month

Each year in March, International Women’s Month is celebrated around the world. In fact, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8.  To commemorate the holiday, The United Family asked team members to share their stories about the many outstanding women across the company. We asked a simple question: What women have made a difference in your life?

Here are just a few of the many amazing compliments we received from team members across the company!

Brittany is a true inspiration. She always has a smile on her face even through all of the trials & tribulations she has endured this past year. Her outlook & attitude are amazing. She truly cares about her team & their success. She is one of the strongest women I know!”

Mary's kindness is inspirational. Mary truly made me feel like family in McKinney during my days at the store. Even when I am fortunate to see her now, I am filled with joy. When I was sick in 2018 and could not work, she would go out of her way to bring me snacks and even gifts for my dog Sugar. She always has a smile on her face. She is beautiful inside and out and I want her to know I think the world of her. She helped me through some difficult months.”

Kami, she always puts her team first! She goes above and beyond to make sure we have the tools needed to complete our jobs and is there every step of the way. She inspires me everyday to be a better TRM, team member, and friend.”

Nicole has been an inspiration to myself and so many of the team members at 543 through her dedication to her role as talent relations manager. She leads with integrity and selflessness and is obviously motivated by her love for the entire team. She is a great example to young moms trying to juggle their roles as employees and mothers. She exemplifies how women can be great employees without sacrificing relationships within the family. United Supermarkets is blessed to have women like Nicole in leadership roles within their stores.”

Tabitha taught me how to grow as a person and a manager. She's very tough but that helps me to be where I am now with the company, what I'm able to bring to the company, how far I'm willing to push myself to succeed. I want to thank you Tab for that and for being there for me.”

Sandy is just the best. She is AMAZING with the guests. So many repeat guests come back to order because she's not just memorable, she takes care of them. As a fellow co-worker I can't wait to see Sandy because she is just an upbeat loving soul.”

Sabrina is always laughing and smiling at work like everyday's a party in her department. When she's not helping guests or fellow co-workers with wine and beer questions she's at home either working on her art work, children's books (Middle of Nowhere Series), or working on her Retail Management Certificate.”

D'Ana helped me transition into the role I have now. She is always willing to help me learn more and answers any questions I may have. I have seen her interact with many people and she never hesitates to lend a helping hand. Thank you D'Ana!”

Rebekah has been a leader, mentor, and great friend to me since I started with the company in 2015. She has helped me grow within the company and has always been there when I needed her, whether it was work related or my own personal life. She empowers all the people that she comes across, making sure they know they are appreciated and valued. Working with her the last 8 years, I've learned that she puts her all into everything she does, lifts people up every chance she gets, and encourages you to be the best version of yourself. I am very fortunate to know and have a friend/mentor like her. Thank you Rebekah for being an incredible example to all women and overall great friend, you are truly appreciated.”

Audrey goes above and beyond for all of us here at the DC. She is always willing to help whenever or wherever needed. Her hard work and dedication to not only her job but her family is top notch! Thank you Audrey for all of your hard work & kindness. You are appreciated.”

Ana consistently comes to work with a great attitude and always conducts herself in a way that will Positively Impact our team and our guests.”

I have known Delilah for almost 20 years, we met at work in food service, and spent several years getting to know one another while working side by side. Delilah knows her priorities and stays true to her beliefs and to herself. My friend has shown me what it looks like to be committed, to be loyal, and to stand up for myself. She has become like a sister to me, and I appreciate her immensely.”

Comments like these help shine on United’s culture.

You might be wondering why the month of March is celebrated for women. According to the National Women’s History Alliance, in 1980 President Jimmy Carter gave a speech designating March 2-8, 1980 as National Women’s History Week. By 1987, the United States Congress declared March as National Women’s Month in perpetuity. Each year a special Presidential Proclamation is issued to honor the extraordinary achievements of American women.

Thank you, to all the trailblazing, hard working and dedicated women.

Happy, Happy, Happy International Women’s Month! The United Family is so grateful to have you.
